Martin faces up to life after the Os Barking and Dagenham Recorder, No. 817, p. 132, 8 May, 2003 http://www.newhamrecorder.co.uk/archived/2003/wk19/newhamsport/orient1.asp [John Martin attended Raine's Foundation from 1992-1997]
SCOTT Canham and John Martin are staying positive about their prospects after being shown the door by Orient. Ex-West Ham youngster Canham looks likely to stay on with Woking after helping the Cards secure their Conference status and is attaining cult status at the Kingfield Stadium in the process. Martin, 21, is currently unsure of his next move, but says he is confident in his own abilities and is positive he will find himself back in Div 3 - despite feeling upset at the news which came "out of the blue". He said: "I've got my own feelings on the subject, but they're going to remain private because I don't believe in doing a Steve Watts and complaining about what's happened. "I've just got to look to the future and get on with finding a club because that's what I have to do and there's no point worrying about what's happened in the past. "I've been at Orient since I was 11 so it's difficult after such a long time but life goes on, I'm still only young and I'm confident in myself." Tigerish 28-year-old midfielder Canham isn't bitter about what has happened and is grateful to the Os for giving him a second chance after spending a year at Chesham. He was released from his beloved Hammers as a 22-year-old and endured a similar situation at Brentford two years later when current Leicester boss Micky Adams decided he was surplus to requirements. Canham said: "I'm disappointed but it's happened before in my career and I'm just going to use it as a positive because if you sit around and mope about it, it doesn't do any good. "I feel I gave 100 per cent and I think the fans recognised that because they've always been very supportive of me and I'd like to thank them for that. "Barry Hearn is also someone I've got to thank because he didn't have to agree when Tommy Taylor said he wanted to bring me back. He could have said 'no, he's been there once already. "Of course I'd love to be at Orient and have been given a new contract but that hasn't happened and I'm happy because Woking have shown an interest in me and it's always nice to be wanted."
