Old Raineian Simone Callender has been selected to represent England in the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games. Simone, born on 11.11.78 and currently representing the Tokei Martial Arts Club, has been selected as part of TEAM ENGLAND, the 14-strong judo squad. Judo has only appeared on the Games programme once before, in Auckland, New Zealand, twelve years ago. Then, the England team dominated proceedings, winning 14 of the 16 Gold medals on offer. Barry James, England's judo team manager, said the squad for Manchester 2002 is a young and talented one. "I would certainly expect us to get a good haul of medals," he added. "All of our players are likely to be very strong contenders." The Judo takes place over three days in Manchester at the G-MEX Centre, from July 30 - August 1.
