Raine's Foundation School is a highly successful inner city voluntary-aided comprehensive and is proud of the recent achievements by its excellent staff and pupils. This has resulted in Raine's envied examination successes. This year Raine's has been included in the list of the top 60 most improved schools in England.

Raine's is heavily over-subscribed and highly regarded throughout a wide community in East and North-East London. This year, over 540 applications were made for 150 places in year 7.

Henry Raine, who was a wealthy brewer, lived from 1679 until 1738 in the then semi-rural hamlets of Wapping and Stepney. Throughout his life he was a pious churchman and a highly respected citizen. In 1719 he allocated part of his wealth to establish a school which was to provide education for a hundred local pupils, fifty boys and fifty girls. The school has developed and has continued through to today on two sites. The lower school site (years 7 & 8) is in Old Bethnal Green Road and the upper school site (years 9-13) is in Approach Road.

The school is also fortunate to be supported financially by the Henry Raine's Trust, a fund set up by Henry Raine. During the past year partly using these funds, the school has upgraded all computer networks and now, on both sites pupils have Internet access through the latest Pentium machines. A further development has been the setting up of study centres in both libraries, which are available for pupil use both before school and after school.

Raine's attaches great importance to high academic achievement through the traditional values of hard work, discipline, good conduct and loyalty. However, we are also proud of our many activities outside curriculum time. Continental journeys, field study excursions and educational visits are regular features of school life. Our many sports teams are very successful and we have a national reputation in Basketball where we are regularly in National Finals. We also have an excellent reputation for music and drama, which play an important part in the life of the school.

The 6th form at Raine's is also an important part of the school and we expect most of our 6th form students to progress to higher education.

Raine's also has a strong supportive governing body, which is underpinned by very supportive parents.

Above all Raine's is a very happy and caring community with a dedicated and loyal staff.
