Jo Skuse, the Learning Resourses Manager at Raine's Foundation School, will participate in the London Marathon on Sunday 13th April, 2003. Jo, 33 from Leytonstone, has been training for the marathon since November 2002 after completing the 5 km "Race for Life" in July, 2002. Averaging 30 miles and running four times per week, she aims to complete the marathon in just over 4 hours.
Jo Skuse of Raine's Foundation School training for the London Marathon which will be held on 13th April, 2003. Her nominated charity is Whizz-Kidz.
Her nominated charity is "Whizz-Kidz", a national children's charity with a very simple goal - to give disabled children and young people independent mobility (www.whizz-kidz.org.uk). By providing customised wheelchairs, tricycles and other specialised mobility equipment, Whizz-Kidz improves the quality of life of disabled children across the UK and literally lets children be children. The charity helps disabled children experience the everyday things that able-bodied children often take for granted such as going to a mainstream school, playing sport and being able to participate fully in family life, all vital for their future growth and development. "It's a cause I believe in," said Jo, who is aiming to raise £1,500 for the charity. She has already raised a substantial amount through selling a Valentine Day's Message Magazine at the school and by organising a fund-raising party. She is seeking further sponsorship to help achieve her target. "Running the marathon, for me, is going to be a personal challenge, but I have enjoyed the training and have been injury-free so far. I am looking forward to the event immensely," said Jo. Around 33,000 runners will participate in this year's marathon. To date over 508,340 runners have completed the 26.2 mile challenge. |
